Cost Basis Tracking for Cash-Secured Put Sellers: A Two-Minute MyATMM Tour

What This Tour Covers

This is a two-minute tour of how MyATMM tracks a cash-secured put seller's account, using a demo account with a few open puts in it. It is a demonstration of a tracking tool: it shows how positions get tracked, not what to trade.

Step 1: Read the Account Summary on the Dashboard

The dashboard opens on the Account Summary. Five numbers do the work:

  • Deposits — the cash that has been put into the account.
  • Brokerage — what the account is worth today.
  • Collateral — the cash tied up backing the open puts.
  • Credits — the option premium collected so far.
  • Overall G/L — all of it rolled up into one number.

Step 2: Break It Down by Ticker on the Positions Tab

The Positions tab breaks the same picture down by underlying. Each row is one ticker:

  • Shares from puts — how many shares the account would own if every open put got assigned.
  • Collateral — the cash reserved for that ticker.
  • Credits — the premium collected on that ticker.
  • Percent of account — how much of the portfolio the position is using.

Step 3: Open the Cost Basis Page for a Single Ticker

Clicking into Cost Basis opens the detail view for one ticker. The header shows the symbol and the last price. The three chips on the right are what the whole tool is built around:

  • Cost Basis — the cost basis on shares that are owned.
  • CB-Prem — the cost basis after subtracting the premium collected.
  • CB+Puts — the effective cost per share if the open puts get assigned.

Key point: Those chips are three different answers to “what's my cost basis?” and all three stay current as transactions are added, which is the part a spreadsheet tends to lose.

Step 4: Check the Ticker Stats

Below the header are the stats for the ticker: shares owned, shares from puts, collateral, credits collected, and realized gain or loss. All of it updates as transactions get added.

Step 5: Review Open Contracts on the Puts Tab

The Puts tab lists each open put contract: the date it was opened, the side, quantity, expiration, strike, the price it was sold for, and the total credit.

Step 6: The Transactions Tab Is the Source of Truth

The Transactions tab is the ledger. Every sell to open, buy to close, assignment, or expiration lands here with its credit. Every number higher up the page is calculated from this list, so when a figure looks off, this is where to look.

Step 7: Total Premium by Month on the Premiums Tab

Back on the dashboard, the Premiums tab totals the option premium collected by month across the whole account. That is the income side of selling options without a spreadsheet that breaks the moment a row goes missing.

The Core Loop

Transactions go in, cost basis and premium tracking come out. Everything else in MyATMM builds on top of that loop. Three tickers are free forever, no credit card required.
